Promoting kiteboarding in Charleston SC
Good news! We have gotten enough support to have the 28.5 station install!! We are ~3 people short of funding the Folly Pier. We have moved forward to get approval on Folly Pier ahead of time through CCPRD (Chas County Parks and Rec Dept.), and are in multiple discussions with Sullivan's Island Town Administrator, Andy Benke, about that install on the Warning sign at 27th. Seems installing on the beach may cross "deed restriction" guidelines set forth by homeowners vista covenants, whom are in litigation with the town over some sensitive issues. Products that are "for profit" are not allowed on the beaches - that is to say, a weather station funded by consumers is highly questionable. If anyone has any insight into how to interpret these "restrictions" or is familiar with beachfront riparian covenants and restrictions, please let me know. I am looking for Plat information to mean low tide water mark info, TMS#'s for RC1- RC3, Federal Land Grants, Federal Easements and any other break in the Plat we could alter to help the cause. Keep in mind - the possibly temporary road block has nothing to do with "kiteboarding". (Also - we have not pitched this as a kiteboarding product.) You may email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any legal advice. Otherwise, we may go with a private home at 29th and move ahead to push for a pole to be erected in the outer mouth of Breach Inlet through strict oversite of USCG/USCG Aux/NOAA and other federal agencies if possible. This option may take some time, so the "private home" install may have to be the immediate route to take - but will have some weaknesses in readings and may require some mental calibration until we can secure an optimal spot. Interested in any other ideas you may have....
p.s. The lighthouse is very close to the harbor and could give biased data - plus it is very high up and very hard to get through Historical Commission red tape.
